Introduction:
With the ongoing evolution of healthcare, therapy intervention has been required to be progressively focused on the long-term benefits of each and every treatment. In addition, home programs must be both emphasized and easily repeated by the caregivers. The ongoing challenge of every clinician is to balance each individual's needs with available resources.
Treatment of individuals with neurological impairment has always presented unique demands. Both motor and sensory impairment must be addressed during the course of treatment. Sensory information that is not organized is overwhelming to the individual. The result is a disorganized and immature quality of motor responses. In contrast, the sensory system may be under responsive, or dormant, making the individual less responsive and not easily aroused. (1) Organizing sensory information to gain functional performance is the utmost objective in treatment programs. Understanding how sensory information is organized has been gained through research and clinical experience.
